STEADY DEMAND FOR WOOL
• TIMARU SALES CONCLUDED. SLIGHT DECLINE IN PRICES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The first South Canterbury wool sale of the season concluded this morning, a catalogue of 12,173 bales being disposed of. Competition was keen for better class wools, particularly super halfbred, which realised better prices than Merino. Bidding throughout the sale was steady, local mills operating freely. Prices were slightly under those ruling at the Wellington sale earlier in the week. The range of prices is as under:— Merino.—Medium, 27d to 30£d; ]ow, 25d to 26Ad. Corriedale.—First hogget. 28d to 33d; medium. 2.~d to 27Ad.
Halfbred.—Super. 29d t0.34.7d; medium. 23d to 2(>A<l; average, 27d to 29d. Three-quarterbred.—-Super, 25d to 27Ad: average. 22d to 24Ad; medium, 20d to 21Jd; low, 19d to 20d. Hoggets.—23Ad to 26Jd. Pieces.—First halfbred, 21 to 27d; second. 19d to 21d; first three-quarter-bred, 17d to 20d: second three-quarter-bred. 15%d to IdAd. Dead wool.—First, 20A6d to 26£d; second, 18d to 20Ad. Bellies.—Halfbred, to 2(kl; crossbred, 16d to 17A<1. Urutchings.—Fine, to 20.? d; coarse, 13d to 15d. Locks.—Halfbred, up to 14Ad; crossbred, lid to 13d. Stained pieces.—Up to 13d. Black wool.—lod to l"7d.
