Mr. Rockel took a. keen interest in the work of. the Polynesian Society, and was a member of the ; council. I Reference to the sympathy and help at [all times extended to the board by Mr. R. W. McVilly, who has just retired from the position of general manager'' of railways, was made at the meeting of the New Plymouth Harbour Board yesterday by tbe chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer). His remarks of appreciation were supplemented by other 1 members of the board, and it was decided to forward to Mr. McVilly a letter, expressing the board’s' indebtedness to him for his sympathy and consideration when all matters concerning the board and the Railway Department were under consideration. The funeral of the late Mrs. E. Elliott took place at the’Te Henui Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, being attended by a large number of mourners. The late Mrs. Elliott was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. J. Longley, of Gisborne. For upwards of thirty years she had resided in New Plymouth, and her kindly disposition had won the confidence and esteem df a > large circle of friends. About two years ago she underwent a very serious operation, and although she made a good recovery she never really regained her full strength. On Friday evening last Mrs. Elliott had a seizure, and despite all that medical skill and careful nursing could do she passed quietly away on Sunday. Mr. Elliott and his grown-up family, consist ing of Mr. E. Elliott (New Plymouth), Mr. R. Elliott (Te Aroha), Mrs. Paul (Auckland) and Mrs. E. Pentecost (New Plymouth), will have general sympathy in their bereavement/ f
