“YOU’RE A LIAR.”
COUNCIL MEETING SCENE. TROUBLE OVER NAMING PAR-lf. There was a lively scene of 30 minutes* duration at a meeting of tha Borough Council at Burwood, Sydney, last week, following upon a proposal by Alderman Williams that the council name a new park area after the Mayor (Aiderman Blair). Mr. Williams said that he was prompted by the long service, of the Aiderman Royce declared that thd council had no moral right to glorify the name of any alderman in thia fashion. He protested that as the paik was in Croydon— and incidentally in his own ward—the residents thereabouts should have the privilege of giving it a name—Jubilee Park for preferen«?e. Aiderman Whipp and Simpson joined forces with 'Mr. Royce when he submitted an amendment that the park bo‘ named “Jubilee Park.” A remark by Aiderman Williams that Mr, Royce did not appear to know what' wanted caused the latter to charge Mr. Williams with canvassing in an effort to succeed eventually to mayoral chair. Mr. Williams: ;<f You’re a liar'.” *, Both aiderman were on their feet, exchanging heated words, and tho .uayor appealed to Mr. Williams to “try and keep cool.” Finally Mr. Williams’ motion to hav# the park called “Blair Park” was carried* Not to be outwitted, however, Messrs. AVhipp, Simpson and Williams gavg hotice that the motion be rescinded. Meanwhile the park remains unchrist’i ened and the Mayor
