COASTAL SCHOOLS.
VISIT OF DR. MARSDEN. TOUR WITH BOARD OFFICIALS. A party consisting of Dr. E. Marsden (Assistant-Director of Education), Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. (chairman of the Taranaki Education Board), Mr. P. J. H. White (member of the board), Mr. J. A. Valentine (senior inspector), and Mr. C. H. Moore (architect to the board) made a round tour through Taranaki yesterday and visited several coastal schools, the chief object of the trip being to discuss with the Opunake School Committee matters relative to i the proposed establishment of a district high school at Opunake. Rain fell throughout the day, making conditions very unpleasant for the motorists.
The New Plymouth members of the party left by car early yesterday morning, meeting Dr. Marsden at Stratford. They then proceeded to Eltham, where a short inspection was made of the new r school in process of erection, and from there went to Kaponga, where they inspected the school. The next stop w*as made at Opunake, where a conference was held with the school committee, and on the return journey to New' Plymouth halts -were made at Rahotu, where the question of remodelling the school is under consideration, and Puugarehu. A short visit was also paid to Parihaka.
