IN TOUCH BY TELEPHONE. NEW CABLE TO BE LAID. YEAR TO COMPLETE WORK By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Night. Mr. E. A. Shrimpton, chief telegraph engineer, announces that an order has been placed for a new cable to be laid between the North and South Islands so as to give proper ’telephonic communication. It will be over a year before the work is completed, but the system adopted will permit people iii Invercargill to be heard clearly by people in Auckland. ThQ Tutanekai will be equipped for the purpose of laying the cable, which will land on the beach at Seddon, in Marlborough.
