POLITICS IN FRANCE.
ILLNESS OF PREMIER. POSSIBILITY OF CRISIS. p—- ■ SOCIALISTS’ ATTITUDE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 15. The Paris correspondent of the Times, discussing the possibility of a French Ministerial crisis as the result of the illness of the Premier (M. Herriot), points out that, in the course of the next few weeks, many international questions of the highest importance will claim attention.
A French Government correspondent says there is no doubt that when M. Herriot has sufficiently recovered he will be ordered to take a long rest. He is said to be progressing satisfactorily,, but the indications are that it will be at least a fortnight ’before he will be able to get up. Meanwhile the prospects of his prolonged absence are causing considerable anxiety to his political friends, who are much perturbed in regard to the situation which woirid arise if he were to resign. They realise that it is only M. Herriot’s personal influence that has so far induced, the Socialists to support a purely Radical Government. If his influence was withdrawn their adhesion might no longer be possible.
