WATERSIDE WORKERS.
DISSATISFIED WITH AWARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Dec. 16. The annual conference of the Waterside Workers* Federation now sitting here considered the recent award for waterside workers as delivered by the Court of Arbitration. Regarding matters agreed upon by the Conciliation Council, de’egates considered these were big improvements on the latt award, but when it comes to the question of wages and other matters, universal dissatisfaction with the award is expressed. The following resolution was carried: That the Federation expresses in most definite terms disapproval of the basic wage granted in the award. We do so on the grounds of its manifest injustice, a.- it does not provide a living wage for waterside workers in this country; we further express disapproval on the grounds that on the evidence submilted during the hearing of the dispute water-
side workers were entitled to a substantial, increase in wages and not the miserable pittance allowed by the court.
