AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING,
STATE VESSEL DELAYED. END OF THE BUREAU. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received Dec. 17, 1.20 a.m. Sydney, Dec. 16. The Seamen’s Union has flouted Mr. Justice Powers and hung up the interstate passenger steamer Cooma, which should have sailed at 4 o’clock this afternoon. the sailing time arrived it was discovered that five firemen were absent without leave, and the sailing was postponed till Wednesday. Members of the shipping labour bureau decided to send a deputation to Cabinet to ask for an assurance that the Government will stand behind rhem in their fight for the retention of preference on the waterfront.
In the Assembly Sir George Fuller stated that he regretted that the Shipping Labour Bureau was to disappear, but he would see that preference under the Act was granted to returned sailor anj soldier wharf labourers.
The secretary of thp returned sailor and soldier wharf labourers stated that legal proceedings would be taken against the companies that refused to give bureau members preference.
