MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
FIGHT ON THE ROADSIDE. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. FATALITY NEAR GORE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gore, Last Night. John Junor, a farmer, of Ferndale, charged with manslaughter i i connection with the death of Donald Cameron near Gore on the evening of l. appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon before the magistral? (Mr. H. J. Dixon). I}r. Rogers gave evidence that death was due to haemorrhage, which could have been caused by a blow or fa’l. A statement by accused was read, stating that lie met Cameron, who was drunk, and they had two or three drinks together. A fracas occurred over Cameron desiring Junor to go to Gore. Junor, in self-defence, repelled Cameron’s attack, knocking the latter down twice. The second time he fell on the metalled road and did not rise. No witnesses saw the actual fight. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial at the Invercargill Supreme Court sittings. Bail was allowed, being fixed at £l6O.
