NEW INTERPRETATION OF RULE. London, Dec. 14. The M.C.C., in a further statement regarding the incident in which a lefthanded player turned and hit the ball right-handed, points out that there is nothing illegal of itself in the action, but there may be attendant circumstances which justify an umpire in deciding that such an act was obstructive or unfair.
IN TER - COLLEGIATE MATCH. PALMERSTON NORTH V. NAPIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The annual cricket match between the Palmerston North and Napier Boys’ High Schools opened here to-day. Tlie visitors batted first and made 159 (Lancaster 33, Gallachan 34, Mk-Donahl 21, Hankin 25). Hickling took five wickets for 34 and Dolbel three for 46. Napier compiled 206 (Holt 59, Beuth 84, Dolbel 16). Gallachan took five wickets for 58, McDonald two for 35, and Smillie three for 54. In the second innings Palmerston made eight runs for no wickets, when stumps were drawn. The match will be continued to-morrow.
