A RIDER SUSPENDED. SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT. Te Awamutu, Dee. 13. The stewards, at an inquiry at the conclusion of the Te Awamutu Cup, in which T. Tito was seriously injured, suspended for six months the rider of Matinee (Maguire), adding that only a conditional license may be issued to him in the future. Matinee crossed in front of Lapidary, thus causing the accident. STRATFORD RACING CLUB. At the last meeting of the general committee of the Stratford Racing Club there were present Messrs. S. Pitt (chairman), H. E. Abraham, J. Fredric, A. Stewart, V. Smith, D. J. Malone, W. P. Kirkwood, F. Whittle, and A. W. Budge. Mr. Kirkwood stated that the vigilance committee had no further report to make at this stage, but were keeping closely in touch with matters. The chairman reported that painters were making good pr'ogicse, and the completion of contracts was practically assured by the 15th inst. A tender has been accepted for the painting of the stewards’ stand. Mr. T. D. Sullivan (supervisor) reported that the contract for metalling of taxi track and Tyl>alt Street had been completed to his entire satisfaction. Air. Fredric reported that location of turnstiles and work in connection with entrance was practically completed. He considers the arrangements very satisfactory. | Mr. Kirkwood reported that the bor- ; ough council would meet the club's re- , quirements in connection with Cordelia Street, and that certain improvements would be effected in Pembroke Road. The chairman stated that arrangements

in connection with the handling of traffic were very satisfactory and wellin hand. Mr. Kirkwood reported in connection with general catering arrangements, and stated that matters were well in hand. The matter of fencing is well under way, and early completion is practically assured. Regarding course improvements (completion of race tracks), the chairman reported that a sub-committee had interviewed Mr. L. C. Sladden (engineer), who had undertaken to draw up plans and specifications forthwith. Plans, etc., will be submitted to the sub-committee at an early date.

A circular letter from the New Zealand Racing Conference regarding division of races was referred to the stewards, with the suggestion that a subcommittee be set up to take action on raiee days if necessary.

The secretary reported that the total number of nominations received was 362, and the committee expressed satisfaction with the results achieved. The matter of appointing an assistant to the starter (Mr. A. Morse) was left in the hands of a sub-committee to interview Mr. Alorse, and with power to act. .Mr. F. D. Gaffaney was appointed honorary timekeeper, and Mr. D. J. Malone was appointed assistant judge. Mr. Kirkwood stated that the Stratford Picture Company was prepared to take a motion picture of the finish of the Cup race, stewards, committee, and general close-up snaps of lawn patrons. It was resolved tha-t the offer tendered by Air. Kirk'wood be accepted with thanks, and that arrangements in connection therewith be left in the hands of Mr. Kirkwood with power to act. The committee expressed their pleasure w.ith the suggestion, and it is confidently anticipated that the matter of taking a motion picture will be not only of interest to but greatly appreciated by the patrons. . It was resolved that a letter of com dolence be forwarded to the relatives of Alesers. Flynn and Reid, tw> prominent jockeys who recently lest their lives as a result of accident. U'RUTI BEACH PICNIC CLUB. THE ANNU AL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Uruti •Beach Picnic Club was held in the Urenui Hall on Thursday evening, there being a good attendance of members. Mr. G. N. Skelton presided.

After confirming the minutes of the previous annual meeting, the report and balance-sheet were read. The report stated that the meeting held in March last year had been most successful, the nominations being in excess of those of the previous, whilst the system of receiving nominations a week before the date of the gathering had proved entirely successful, and the committee recommended that tne entries should close one week before the races for the majority of the events at any future meeting. The receipts had been £143 10s and the expenditure £l5l 2s Bd. This, with a balance in hand from last year, left a credit of £(» 13s 9d, with two small accounts of approximately £4 .to i' a yihe -balance-sheet showed the sweepstakes to have amounted to £7O, gate money £2B 19s 3(1, donations and tickets £4l 14s 6d, riders’ licenses aii<l other sources £1 *6s, balance from last year £l4 6s sd, making a total of £157 16s sd. The expenditure bad been: Prize money £ll2 10s, advertising £l3 13s, insurance, Racing Conference, refreshments, goods, etc., £24 19s Bd. cash in ibauk ana in -and £*6 13s 9d, total £157 16s Jd. The report and balance-sheet were udc.pted. It was resolved that AL. C. Barnett be paid £3 10s in settlement of an old account. The election of officers was then proceeded with, the chairman remarking he very much regretted the retirement of Mr.* Leo O'Neill from the position of secretary. That gentleman had worked hard in the interests of the eiub, and its present popularity was due in a great measure to ms untiring efforts. However, he was pleased to be able to state that Air. O’?*eill would be present at the next gathering and would render any c.osistame in his power to his successor.

On the motion of Air. O’Neill it was resolved that the motion regarding the conditions of the cup -be rescinded, and that it be passed outright to the winner. He had been promised another cup for the. forthcoming meeting. Votes of condolence were passed to the relatives of the late Air. Keith and Mr. F. Fuller, all members standing in silence. It was agreed that nominations fur all races (with the exception of th* Farmers’ Plate and Consolation Race) should close one week before the da r .e of meeting, and the new commitl-'? were recommended to have programmes printed containing a list of nominations of the various events, together with adverr.isements, Last year’s programme was adopted and the date of the gathering was left in the hands of Messrs Baker and Salway and the secretary to arrange.
