TARANAKI HEAD CENTRE. CLARINGBOLD’S REINSTATEMENT. AUSTRALIAN DIVER'S VISIT. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Head Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held at New Plymouth last night. Present: Messrs. F. J. Eggleton (chairman), R. Howell, B. Brown, C. S. Forbes (New Plymouth), AV. A. Spragg (Hawera), G. N. Roberts (Inglewood), and the secretary (Mr. F. J. Shearer). Apologies for /V absence were received from Miss E. "L. Purdue (New Plymouth Ladies’ Life-Saving Club), and Mr. G. Bertrand (New Plymouth Boys’ High School).

Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Association in connection with the reinstatement of AV. J. Claringbold, the motor cyclist. The opinion was expressed that it was not worth while for Claringbold to proceed with his application for reinstatement, as notice would be given at the next meeting of the council to rescind the 1920 resolution, which ruled that he was not eligible to join the Hawera Club. This would automatically adjust the matter, and Claringbold would thereupon be free to join .the Hawera Club and swim as an amateur.

THE VISIT OF R. EVE. The thirty-fifth annua] report of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was received and read. At a meeting of the tours committee it had ,'been decided to extend an invitation to Mr. R. Eve, the Australian diver, to tour the Dominion. If possible the tour will commence in the second week of next xVith Auckland as the port of arrival. Guarantees would be set as follows: One appearance £l5, two appearances £25. The Amateur Swimming Union in Australia would be asked to advise the New Zealand Association whether or not Mr. Eve would accept the invitation so that centres could be advised as soon as possible. The fixing of an itinerary was deferred pending a reply from Australia. It was decided to apply for two appearances in Taranaki, one at New Plymouth and-one at Hawera.

HANDICAP CARDS. Arising from a suggestion by the Hawke's Bay Centre that cards should be issued by the council and supplied to the centres for handicapping purposes, the New Zealand Association forwarded a specimen handicap card. The Hawke’s Bay Centre pointed out that such cards would greatly facilitate the supply of information as to a swimmer's time, either to the handicapper at a championship meeting or to the handicapper in a district to which a swimmer was transferred.

It was resolved to support the issuing of handicap cards on similar lines to those suggested, Imt that in addition space should be left for the signature of a witness to each time taken. AFFILIATION FEES.

The balance of the affiliation fees due by the. Hawera Club was received and approval was granted to the programme of events in connection with their carnival to be hold this week, subject to the inclusion of the compulsory dues.

Reference was also made to the services rendered by the centre’s delegate at Christchurch (Mt. A. L. AA r ilkinson), and it was resolved that a letter of appreciation and thanks be forwarded both to Mr. O’Neill and Mr. AVilkinson. NEAV ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.
