REPAIRING A CABLE.
STEWART ISLAND LINK. By Telegraph—Fn*ss Association. Dunedin, Last Night. During his present visit to the South Island, Mr. Shrimpton (chief telegraph engineer) repaired the Stewart Island cable, in which a fault had developed. The job was undertaken in an oyster cutter and the whole operation was completed in ten days at a cost of £2OO. Had the cable repairing steamer been brought from Auckland the engineer estimates the cost would have been about £2OOO.
