The ratepayers to-day defeated, b.y a stwo to one majority, proposals to raise loans as follows: Land for parks and playgrounds, £17,000; improvements to parks and playgrounds, £6000; drainage, £5000; an overhead bridge at the railway crossing at St. Johns, £4OOO.
