JEWEL ROBBERIES.

HEAVY LOSSES IX NEW YORK. SOME DARING EXPLOITS. By Telefirrapli—Pr?ss Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 28, 11.5 p.m. New York, Sept. 27. *The tremendous losses suffered by American jewellers recently continue apace. The Jewellers’ Security Alliance has announced that during June. July and August 177 jewellers in New York and vicinity were robbed of jewellery worth approximately 650,000 dollar© and during the first eight months of 1924 the total reached 2.174,000 dollars, comprising 129 hold-ups and thirty-eix safe burglaries. The alliance states the activities of criminals have become more persistent and daring and there has never been a time when this was truer. This is reflected in th© large number of daylight depredations, and while-the arrests that have been made ar© mostly young men who are not identified with the criminal underworld, the crime records nevertheless show that jewellers who ar© protected against robberies are studiously avoided.
