(From Our Own Correspondent.) Last Thursday evening the Town Hall was packed to its utmost capacity, the occasion being the second performance ot the .pupils of the local public school. Every item was exceedingly well rendered and the whole performance reflects great credit upon’ the teaching staff. The children had evidently been well trained, knew their parts perfectly and, on the whole, gave a delightful entertainment. The head mistress, Miss A. The Town Board election aroused very little interest in the town, and the vote was an exceedingly small one The new councillors are «11 able men, and once they get into ha-ncu should be an acquisition to the board. At Newton King, Ltd.’s stock sale last Friday a fair yarding was penned. Competition for ail classes of cattle was. very keen and good prices ware obtained. Heavy fat cows realised up to £7 7s, medium up to £5, light to £4. Store cows were in good demand and brought up to £3 10s. Weaners £3 and hoggets 26s were also well competed for. In the dairy pens about 100 head were yarded and were nearly alt sold. Good heifers realised up to £lO 10s. guaranteed cows up to £l4. The very mild weather experienced lately has brought the grass away very quickly and the local factory is now receiving a large supply of milk. The countryside is now looking extremely well, and as prospects for dairy produce s look good farmers nre feeling fairly well satisfied with things in general. . A noticealile feature about the farms is , manner in which the top-dressed !

paddocks are responding to treatment received, Kaponga is rapidly making a name for itself by reason of its stock sales and promises to become one of the best markets on the coast. At every sale large entries of store and dairy cattle come forward and meet with ready sale, the reason being that outside buyers encounter more competition in this market.
