WOMAN STABBED.
ASSAULTED BY MAN, INJURY.NOT SERIOUS. INCIDENT IN AUCKLAND. W By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Auckland, Laifit Night. An assault of a desperate -character in circumstances which might easily have terminated in murder was perpetrated this evening near one of the entrances to Albert Park. Miss Salek, a young woman, was brutally stabbed in the back with a knife or other sharp instrument by an unknown man, who had apparently followed her from the locality of the public library. The assailant escaped. The assault occurred shortly before eight o’clock while Miss Salek was on her way home through Albert Park. It is reported that a man followed her from near the library and when Miss Salek reached the Princes Street gate the man rushed upon her and stabbed her savagely in the back between the* shoulders.
Her screams immediately brought two pedestrians to her assistance, but these di<J not have the opportunity to identify the culprit, who ran off quickly. The injury is not serious, althoaigh Miss Salek is suffering acutely from shock.
