EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSN.

FAREWELL TO LORD JELLICOE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 25. The Early Settlers’ Association gave a farewell to the Governor-General and Lady Jellicoe last night. Mrs. Cornford, aged 91, presented a bouquet and Thomas Bassett, who arrived in 1840, read an address. Apologies for absence on account of infi'rmity were made for several members, including one of 105, residing in Neteon, who had landed in 1842.

Lord Jellicoe acknowledged th© greetings with some happy remarks on the work of the pioneers and a jocose reference to the power of their lungs as shown by their cheering. Professor Witeon expressed a hope that their Excellencies would make a note of the date, in September, 1940, when the early settler? would celebrate their centenary.
