STATE ADVANCES.

HELPING RETURNED SOLDIERS. ALTERATIONS SUGGESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Sept. 23. In the course of a letter to the Chamber of Commerce Mr. James Begg traversed the present system of State Advances, with special reference to the sale of houses by returned soldiers who had acquired properties with the assistance of th e State loans. He suggested that, in order to terminate the condition that enabled recipients of Government loans to realise the capital conferred on them, these loans should automatically mature and be liquidated on a transfer taking place, on the basis of the market value ff the property and monetary accommodation.

The chamber decided to make the suggestion in the form of a remit to the next conference.
