STEPS TO DEFEND LONDON. NEW BATTLEPLANES. REMARKABLE POWERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlgtit. Received Sept. 23, 7.15 p-m. London, Sept. 22. The Daily Chronicle’s aviation correspondent gives details of remarkable new battle ’planes, which should restore Britain’s air prestige. They are intended for the defence of London and British towns and are modelled on the lines of uhe Blamel and Napier Gloster ’planes. They have a speed of 190 miles an hour, with fighting equipment, and by means of five hundred horse-power Napier Lioness engines they can reach an altitude of twenty thousand feet in ten minutes after receiving warning of a raid, as they rise almost vertically instead of by laborious climbing. An*-Marshal Sir John Salmond is organising a new aeroplane defence scheme.
