A London cable announces the death of Sir Peter Mackie, chairman of Mackie and Co., the distillers, Nevil Maskelyne, the famous illusionist, was found dead in bed (says a London cable). He suffered with heart trouble for some time and apparently died in his sleep. Mr. Jules Omer John Malfroy, LL.B., has been nominated as the Wellington candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship. He is a well-known footballer and represented Wellington during the past three years, while he was a member of the university team which toured Australia.
