GLOAMING FAILS AGAIN.

BALLYMENA’S NARROW WIN. CHAMPION MEETS HARD LUCK. BLOCKED IN THE STRAIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept.. 21, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 21. The Rosehlll races were held yesterday in glorious weather and the tracks were in good condition and fast. The attendance was very large.

It was a day of surprises and rewards, and the New Zealand horses figured prominently. Nigger Minstrel accounted for the Guineas, with Bonaparte third, while in the Hill Stakes the New Zealand horses filled all the places. In the first division of the Highweight Handicap Bosh took second honours and Director occupied a similar position in the second division. With Heroic scratched from the Guineas, what was regarded as Nigger Minstrel’s strongLest opponent was out of the way, and the New Zealander won handsomely pulling up by four lengths. The time was Imin. 53sec., equalling the course record. Nigger Minstrel, after the race, showed slight lameness, and it is understood a strained muscle is responsible. Gloaming’s defeat in the Hill Stakes was the result of bad luck, and caused much disappointment, Holding a good position at the top of the straight. Gloaming got blocked when just making his .run at the St. Leger stand and had to be eased up. Gloaming lost giound, and Ballymena, making the most of the opportunity, dashed in front. Gloaming, getting clear, made a great effort to retrieve his position, and was beaten by half a neck only. The time (Imin. 38%sec.) equalled the course record. The principals results are GUINEAS—Nigger Minstrel H. Reed) 1, Solidify (A. Lewis) 2, Bonaparte (Con. Reed) 3. Thirteen starters. Valamite made the early running and Nigger Minstrel moved into second place. Once in the straight Nigger Minstrel took command, and clearing away from the field, won easily by four lengths. Solidfy beat Bonaparte by two lengths. Time, imin. 53sec.

HILL STAKES.—Ballymena, 8.11 (Medley) 1, Gloaming, 9.0 (G. Young) 2; The Hawk, 9.0 (Pike) 3. Six starters. They jumped off in line. Braehead soon took charge and made the pace to the half-mile from Bedonia, The Hawk, Gloaming, Serelot and Ballymena, the Straight being entered in the same order. A little later Gloaming was blocked and had to g.j round his field. Ballymena, coming fast, headed Braehead a furlong from home and lasted long enough to beat Gloaming’s great effort by half a neck. The Hawk was two lengths away. Tlmr, Imin. 38%sec. HIGH-WPIQHT HANDICAP.—First Division: Valiant 1, Bosh 2, TorbeUlng 3. Thirteen starters. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, Imin.
