FIRST STONE STRUCTURES

DISCOVERY IN EGYPT. By Telegraph—Pros# Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 19, 8.50 p.m. Cairo, Sept. IS. What Mr. Firth, of the Egyptian Antiquities Department, describes as one of the most important archaeological discoveries during recent years was made adjacent to the famous step pyramid Sakkara, near Cairo. It consists of two tombs and chapels of the third dynasty, built in a style differing from Egyptian architecture in almost every respect. They are the earliest stone buildings known. Work has only been proceeding for two months on this site, which it is hoped will be completely cleared during the coming winter.
