CRICKET TOURS

VISIT FROM WEST INDIES. NEGOTIATIONS IN PROGRESS. Regarding the announcement made some time ago that the New Zealand Council was moving to secure a visit from a team representing the West Indies, advice has come to hand that the matter ha.s been taken up enthusiastically in the West Indies. Provided that- the financial arrangements are satisfactory, there is every prospect of the leading cricketers of the West Indies coming to New Zealand. It is expected that H. B. G. Austin, also well known in England, will lead the side, and that he will be assisted by Harrigan as vice-captain. Possibly as many as 18 players may make the trip, and. according to present information, the team will spend twelve or fourteen weeks in tlie Dominion. H. B. G. Austin has the matter in hand, and he has been in negotiation with the New Zealand Cricket Council.
