German goods of the variety suitable for Christmas presents are beginning to arrive in Wanganui. While so far there are no German travellers soliciting orders in the Dominion, these goods are being handled by travellers of big New Zealand firms. A retailer remarked whilst not desnring to boost Germanmade goods against British, there was no douibt that many of the articles had been beautifully finished. Many of the strawberry beds in Auckland suffered severely by the exceedingly heavy rain during bust Sunday night (states the Star). On seven al sloping plots a large number of plants were silted up, and others again were washed out, the work put in by the 'growers during the fine spell id loosening the earth around the roots rendering thia disaster all the more ready of aocomplishment. The plants generally, however, are responding to the warmer atmosphea’e, and new growth is apparent. Nevertheless, crop prospects are far behind previous seasons.

The members of the W.C.T.U. are hoping for a large attendance at the Victoria League Rooms on Friday at 2.30 p.m. Conditions for women and children have greatly improved since the “Women’s Franchise” was passed, and it is hoped that at the next election women will exercise their righte fully, to the extent of voting the drink traffic right out of the Dominion.
