FAILURE TO REGISTER.

BAD GISBORNE CASE. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Sept. 17. Before two Justices of the Peace at Gisborne. James Seal, appeared on a charge of failing to register as required by the Defence Act. Senior-Sergeant Fitzpatrick said defendant had not registered at all and was now over the age limit and would not have to serve. Defendant said he was a slaughterman and he worked at various places. He admitted ue was aware that he had to register. During the past year he worked at the Hawke's Bay, Waijpaoa and Hicks Bay freezing works, and the previous year he.was in Australia. He admitted he had been living iu Gisborne about eight or nine years. The Bench said: “Y’ou have practically evaded service for three years and therefore you will be deprived of your civil rights for the same period, and you will be fined £1 and costs.”
