KAPONGA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday evening a smoke, concert was held in the Oddfello'ws’ Hall to celebrate the winning of the “Soccer” championship cup by the Kaponga team. There was a very large attendance of “Soccer” enthusiasts arid followers of other sports. Mr. W. Adams, president of the Taranaki society, was in the chair, and proved to be the right man for the position, as he kept the meeting going all the time. The following is a list of the various items:—Toast, the King; recitation, Mr. W. B. Fearon; toast, “The Taranaki Soccer Football Society,” proposed by Mr. C. E. Betts, and responded to by Mr. W. Adams (president) and Mr. C. Cummings (secretary of the society); musical item, Mr. J. Renwick; toast, “The Kaponga Association Football Club,” by Air. B. Morgan, and responded to by Mr. A. Melville; musical item, Mr. M. Budd; presentation of champion cup by Mr. W. Adams to Mr. C. E. Betts (president of Kaponga Club), and responded to iby Air. C. E. Betts; toast, “Kindred Sports,” Air. A. Hislop, and responded to by Messrs. W. B. Fearon (Rugby), J. Stephens ('hockey), C. E. Betts (cricket), R. Grace (tennis); presentation of Hibernian 7-a-side Cup, won by Kaponga Chib at Alanaia sports, by Air. M. McMahon; song, Air. A. Thatcher; and the toasts of the “Ladies” and the

“Press.” The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought to a close one of the most successful smoke concerts ever held in Kaponga. Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., held a successful special dairy sale in their yards on Friday, and practically all cattle yarded were sold at the hammer. Good quality heifers realised up to £ll and other aorta to £6. Cows were in [.good demand, and made up to £l2.
