GENERAL TOPICS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, May 22.
The Waitara Soldiers’’ and Civilians’ Club held its weekly euchre party on Monday, when a very enjoyable evening was spent. There were fifteen tables engaged in play, the winners being as follows; Ladies. Mrs. Muschamp 1, Mrs. Luxton 2; gentlemen, Mr. Pomare 1, Mr. C. Fowler 2.
At the quarterly meeting of the Druids Lodge on Tuesday evening, a very interesting and instructive address on the aims and working of the lodge was given by Past Grand President Bro. Flanagan, of Wellington- The speaker touched on a large variety of subjects of interest to members, who greatly appreciated the visit. At the conclusion of his address a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitor. Past District President Bro. W. F. Cutler was also a visitor from Palmerston North. He also addressed the meeting on various topics peculiar to Druidism and received a warm welcome.
The Maoris at Pa have been holding one of their usual periodical gatherings. Sir Maui Pomare (Minister for Health), accompanied by his son and private secretary, has been in attendance. Mr. F. A- Brown, consulting electrical engineer to the Borough Council, was in Waitara yesterday to investigate details in connection with the reticulation for the electric power from New Plymouth.
