Paul Lempriere, who pleaded guilty to stealing with violence the ?um of £42, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour and declared a habitual criminal. He will be detained after the expiration of his sentence during the Governor’s pleasure. A sensational robbery’ occurred in Perth on January 17. A well-dressed man entered the West Perth Post Office, and, covering the manager with a revolver, emptied the cash drawer. Paul Lempriere, later arrested for the crime, was stated to be identical with Claude Devere, who, in November last, escaped with another prisoner from Bendigo Gaol. Prior to escaping, Devere made an unsuccessful attempt, for which he was sentenced to an additional eighteen months.
