UNIFORM LEVER CONTROLS.
Some months ago 'the Auto-Cycle Union made certain to manufacturers on the subject of a uniform system of control levers with a view to encouraging improvement where it is generally recognised that improvement is urgently needed; but it would appear that their seed has been sown on stoney We are as far off standardised controls as ever. Indeed, the new season’s machines show a greater diversity of ideas in this direction than previously. The great majority of new. machines sold every year are purchased by people who have already owned or ridden motor cycles. They, on the whole, would welcome uniformity of control, and it would, we believe, make a useful contribution to the safety of our roads. Car makers have almost universally adopted the throttle pedal; there are standardised positions for brake, clutch and gear levers, yet no one would say that, car designs have lost any of their individuality on that account.
