HIGH COST OF LIVING.
FRANCE TACKLES PROBLEM. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 20. The Paris correspondent of the Morning Post states that consequent upon the increasing outcry against the high • cost of living the Government has decided to create a special body under M. Riinbert (Director of Supplies at the War Office), who is essentially a man of action and who is hailed as a dictator charged with the suppression of profiteering. M. Rimbert declares: “I shall seek to restrict private advantages and the often excessive profits of certain producers and dealers. I shall begin with bread and when wheat prices are stabilised I shall investigate other necessaries. Before trying to reduce prices I propose ending their continued rise. Speculation in flour has become frenzied.”
