SCHOOL BREAKING-UP. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The breaking-up ceremony of the Inglewood school took place on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Roberts occupied the chair, and Mr. R. Masters, M.P.. presented the prizes to the children. There were a good many parents present. During the afternoon speeches were given by the Mayor (Mr. J. Sutherland). Mr. Masters, the Rev. Stanton and the head teacher (Mr. Henderson). The following is the prize-list: Standard I.—Girls, M. Clegg 1, F., Harland 2, G. Haylock 3; boys, K. Braybrooke 1, R. Gray 2. R. Paul 3; progress prizes, J. Franklyn and I. King. Standard 2.—Girls, B. Rogers 1, E. Peterson 2, E. Rogers 3; boys, B. Evetts I. J. Longbottom 2, F. Blackbourne 3; diligence prize, F. Gudgeon; general knowledge prize, D. Lamb. Standard 3.—V. Goodwin !. E. McGonagle 2, R. Stevens 3, D. Rutherford 4, L. King 5, D. Alleman and K. Peterson (equal) 6; special prize most industrious pupil, I. Frewin. Standard 4.—D. Kendrick 1, D. Roberts 2, V. Beadle 3. C. Gudgeon 4, E. Stuck 5, D. Corkill 6; special prize for most industrious ipupils, H. Harris, M. Norcross and M. Jenkins. Standard 5. —J. Longbottom 1, B. Jones 2, A. Kennedy 3, M. Nutting 4, J. Alleman 5, V. King 6; special prize for diligence, E. Cottier; special prize for a.sistanee with weather record, C. Gudgeon; special prize for history and geography, J. Alleman; special prize for good influence in class, G. Morton and J. Rowan.

McCormick; special for dux of school, Jessie Messenger. Swimming certificates. —V. Clegg, P. Patridge, E. Longbottom, M. Nutting and E. Lightfoot. Ail the children in the primary classes received a prize. The following children have not been absent all the year: Victor King, Clifford Crossman, Una Lile, Jessie Longbottom, Beatrice Jones, Madeline Corkill. Alma Kennedy. May Gyde, Eric Stuck, Noel Cottier, Boyd Evetts, Norman Gamlin, Archie McCormick, Ernest Burrows, lan Carmine. Ben -Stimpson, Don Giles and Joan Franklyn After the presentation of prizes, cheers were given by the children for Mr. Masters, the Mayor, the teachers, the donors of special prizes and the chairman and School Committee. The afternoon wound up with afternoon tea provided by the ladies, teachers anil committee, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
GENERAL ITEMS
The Chamber of Commerce committee are still working in earnest to have everything in readiness for Christmas Eve, and everyone who visits Inglewood on this day and evening will appreciate the good work that they have done. The town band, gramaphones, open-air concerts, dancing on the green, and many forms of amusement for young and old will add greatly to the amusement of all. The funeral of the late Mrs. Bancroftaged 76, took place on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Stanton officiated at the graveside. Mr. Bancroft died about two years ago. They were both very old settlers in this district, having arrived in New Zealand about 1875, and had resided in Inglewood or nearby for the 48 years. They leave no family and have no relatives in the colony.
