SCHOOL BURNED.
INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Dec. 20. A fire at Epsom School broke out with startling rapidity in the darkness of a wet night. It suddenly shot up and almost immediately the whole building was ablaze. Three brigades arrived quickly, but the flames had such a hold on the wooden classrooms that there was no hope of any salvage. The flames threatened to extend to the infant school, 40 feet away, but it escaped damage. The foreman of the brigade which first arrived says black smoke was pouring from the building, which would not be expected from a wooden building. It was set up by a volatile oil. The school registers were destroyed in a fire a month ago, which destroyed the northern wing of three rooms, and the fire last, night involved the destruction of the new registers and examination schedules for every pupil. There are grave suspicions of incendiarism.
