A. AND P. MATTERS.

THE TARANAKI SOCIETY. MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Taranaki A. and P. Society was held yesterday, Mr. W. B. Grant presiding over an attendance of about thirty members. Before commencing the business of the meeting a vote of sympathy was accorded to the relatives of the late Mr. F. Andrews. The schedule committee recommended the following alterations in the schedule, the recommendations being approved by the committee: —That sections 31, 32, 35 in the carriage horses and hacks section b« deleted and in the competition section that musical chairs competitions, one for boys and one for gentlemen, be included, and also that a consolation jump be inserted for gentlemen, the prizes to be, first £3, second - £2, and third £l. It was proposed to sub-divide the Jersey calf class into two classes namely, senior from May 1 to August 31. and junior from August 31 to date of show. After considerable discussion, it was resolved to have the two classes, with the amendment that the dates be altered to May 1 to July 31 and July 31 to the show date.

It had been proposed that the novice bull and heifer class bp deleted, but as Mr. O’Sullivan was willing to donate the prize money again it was decided to retain the class. An extra class, for junior breeders’ teams of two yearling heifers and one yearling bull, was included in the schedule, Messrs. Wright, {Stephenson and Co- donating the prize money.

The two dairy cows class and the amateurs’ cow-judging competition were deleted. Concerning the latter class the entries had been very poor, and the committee unwillingly had to do away with it altogether. Two recommendation® were received from the Jersey Cattle Club, firstly, that two judges be appointed in the Jersey section, one for females and bulls and the other for the calf, yearling and grade class; secondly, that a class be included in the Jersey section for a cow and three of her progeny. Both recommendations werp approved. A recommendation was received from the Ratepayers’ Association to the effect that the A. and P. Society be asked to set up a committee to consider the question of evolving a method by which the Land Act should be amended in the direction of affording a more equitable method of the valuation of agricultural and pastoral lands and to take any action necessary. Mr. Grant stated that in view of the recent trouble concerning valuations the above remit was a very important one. and he considered that it was essential that a sub-com-mittee should be set up. The remit was received, and the following subcommittee was appointed: Messrs. Grant, Connett. Hall and F. T. Davis. The following new’ members were elected: Messrs. J. F. Mehrtens. S. M. James, G. J. Wyatt and Shadbolt. Messrs. R. Tippins and Shadbolt were elected to the committee.
