MILITARY BALL.

A GREAT SUCCESS. Over three hundred couples were present at the Coronation Hall, New Plymouth, last night on the occasion of the sixth annual military ball held by the Fourth Battalion, Wellington Infantry Regiment (Taranaki The grand march was led by Lieut. J. Kempsell and Mrs. Kempsell (of Waitara). The big hall was ablaze of color, native ferns forming a background for countless multi-colored streamers which were strung across the hall, while red, white and blue electric light bulbs, studded among the decorations, added to the brightness of the scene. The staff-offi-cer of the No. 8 regimental district (Captain D. E. Bremner, M.C.), of Hawera, was present, together with a numher of territorial officers from New Plymouth and Waitara. The dancers present were representative of all parts of Taranaki and, considering the inclemency of the weather, the crowd was exceptionally large. The music during th? earlier part of the evening was provided by the regimental bund, Mrs. George’s orchestra relieving the band later and dispensing excellent music. The supper-room was prettily d eorated with flags and greenery while the tables were decorated in the regimental colors—red, yellow and blue. The ladies’ committee, who nad charge of the supper arrangements, consisted of the following; Mesdames Millman, B?el. Sharp. .'Stevens Cavaney, Muir, Johnson, Crann and Phillips. Misses Millman and McLean. The members of the ball committee were: Sgt.Maior A. E. St?ven« (chairman), Sgts. D. Doile and E. Olsen. Corporals C. Kyngdon, D. McLean, C Brewster. J. Smillie. and P. Wright, Pnvatea L Abbott, Priest. O’Grady, Greer, Roberts. Schultz, Lett. Milne, Freethey, Revell, secretary, Sgt.-Major T. A P. Lister, treasurer, Private F. J. Corki.l. A soft drinks stall under the <*“* e of R.Q.M.S. A. E. Sharp, did good biisiness, while clock-rooms added to the convenience of dancers.
