HANDUNG OF FRUIT. Received June 12, 8.5 p.m. London, June 11. A deputation of the Australasian section of the Chamber of Commerce and the Australasian Merchants' Association, consisting ot Messrs. Tredwen, F. Moore and F. Pearce, waited on Lord Devonport, chairman of the Port of London Authority, urging Quicker discharge of fruit and better supervision to prevent rough handling and breakage of cases. The deputation pointed out that fruit discharged at Southampton could be delivered in London quicker than if discharged at Tilbury. Lord Devonport promised to endeavor to have things placed on a better footing. Ho said tlie construction of a motor road from Tilbury to London would prevent congestion. He believed the Transport Ministry was Ln sympathy* with a motor road, but it would entail the removal of houses and the displacement of population. LONDON METAL MARKET. Peas are maintaining their high price; farm, ers are offering more freely, and up to 8s 4%d f.o.b. sacks in has been paid. Perennial ryegrass is very firm, but there is very littl® about. The activity la due to the export demand; up to 7s fid f.o.b. sacks extra has been paid for 27-281 b. seed. Italian is also in slightly lees demand, only being worth from 78 to 7s 3d f.o.b. It is also scarce.
