Eleven nominations have been received for election to the nine seats on the Stratford County Council, and there will be contests in the west and ridings. The nominations are as follow: North Riding.—Mr. Davis (nominated by P. Schmidt and K. W. Kernsley;; 8. Pitt (nominated by E. J. Kirkwood and W. H. Norton). East Riding.—E. Walter (nominated by E. Marfell and C. Vaughan); W. H. Were (nominated by H. J. Kaye, E. Marfell. H. T. Murray and A. 11. Bowen). West Riding.—J. T. Belcher (nominated by A. J. Smith and J. Richards); T. R. Anderson (nominated by S. A. Mann and G. Jones); E. W. Hancock (nominated by D. Shannon and J. Stewart). Mangaehu Riding.—J. Jacobsen (nominated by J. Savage, A. Running, F. W. R. Bredow and E. Ure). South Riding.—J. O’Neill (nominated by W. H. Harris and R. S. Death); 8. Parker (nominated by J. Pattinson and F. Tekofsky); J. H. Thomas (nominated by A. D. Walker, H. O. Taylor, F. E. .boeock, F. J. Mehrtens and P. Thomson). The nominees for the north, east and Mangaehu ridings have been declared elected unopposed. INDECENT ASSAULT ALLEGED. On a charge of indecently assaulting a child of eight years of age, a boy aged 10| years was brought before Mr A. E. Copping, J.P., on Saturday. On the application of the police a remand was granted until Wednesday, bail being allowed in accused’s own recognisance of x 100 and one surety of £ 100. The publication of accused’s name, at least until the hearing of the case, was prohibited. STRATFORD BUILDING SOCIETY. At the annual meeting of the Stratford Co-operative Building Society on Friday night, Mr. J. McAllister was elected chairman, Messrs G. Smart and J. Masters were re-elected to the board of directors,, and Mr. T. H. Penn was reelected auditor. The annual report stated that the Society was in a sound financial position, with a balance of £lOO5 ds lOd standing to its credit. The amount let out for building purposes in Stratford was £31,000, and it was claimed that this had been of material assistance in the development of the town. GENERAL ITEMS. No building permits were issued by the Strtford Borough Council during April. Eighteen births, six deaths and nine marriages were registered in Stratford during April. In the corresponding month of last year the figures were 22, 4 and 5 respectively. Mr. E. W. Hancock, who has previously done good service on the Stratford County Council, announces that he will again contest the West Riding at the county election. The marriage of Mr. Herbert Summerfield to Miss Myra Batcher, of Cloton Road, was celebrated at the Methodist Church this morning, the Rev. L. B. Neale officiating. The funeral of the little boy, Jack McDonald, who died on Saturday, took place to-day. The remains were followed by a large number of the boy’s school companions and a cortege that extended almost the full length of Broadway. The funeral of the late Mrs. C. Tuck, of Toko, took place at the Kapuatama cemetery to-day. The large number following to *the cemetery was an indication of the respect with which the late Mrs. Tuck was held. A difficulty met with in the construction of the new bridge in Broadway was the water and sewerage mains’, which passed through the under-structure of the old bridge. In taking down the old bridge it was necessary to divert these mains, and this work was successfully carried out yesterday. An elbow was put in each of the mains, and the pipe-s were run over that portion of the new bridge already competed. It was necessary to cut off the water supply for several hours yesterday, and the work was carried on at night by the aid of lights. The Indian play “From the Land of the Sky-Blue Water,” produced by the Inglewood Boy Scouts, will be produced in ° the Stratford Town Hall on Tuesday (May 8). WIRELESS! WIRELESS! WIRELESS!
