TROUBLE ON LINER.
VESSEL RETURNS TO PORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, April 30. The Whakatane, which left Wellington at 7 a.m. yesterday for Avonmouth, put back at 1 o’clock this morning, having developed engine trouble. Shortly after noon yesterday it was discovered that the port refrigerating engine, upon which repairs had been carried out while the vessel was completing loading, had developed trouble caused by the condenser. The exact extent of the damage was not known early-this afternoon, but it was hoped to dispatch the liner in two or three days to Avonmouth.
TO SAIL ON WEDNESDAY.
Wellington. Last Night. The trouble with the Whakatane, which compelled her to put back to port after leaving for West England parts, was with the engines in the refrigerating plant. It is stated to-day the repairs wiU be effected in two days and that the Whakatane will sail on Wednesday.
