CROQUET.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Croquet Club was held at the pavilion on Saturday, there being a jfalr attendance. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President, Mrs. Courtney (reelected) ; vice-president, Mrs. D. K. Morrison; lion, secretary, Mrs. A. Waters (re-elected), appreciation being expressed of her valuable services) ; committee, Mesdames Harrison, Fookes, Eberlet, and Miss Renncil. It was decided to close the lawns on May 15. Four members very generously donated their £5 debentures. The annual report stated that a whirlwind on March 27 tore off the verandah and snapped the flagpole of the new pavilion, costing £lO to repair the damage. The club has 39 active members and 25 honorary. The club was greatly indebted to Mr. J. P. Harrison for his indefatigable work on the lawns. Altogether the season had been most successful. The balance sheet showed subscriptions, donations, etc., £255 10s 2d, and expenditure £l4l Ils lOd, leaving a credit balance of £ll3 18s 4d, most of which will be absorbed In meeting liabilities and the upkeep of the lawns during the winter.
