FERRY BOAT ASHORE.
THRILL FOR PICNICKERS. MISHAP IN SMOOTH WATER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Night. Picnickers by the Ferry steamer Britannia had a novel experience on Saturday morning, being shipwrecked in smooth water, as the vessel grounded on a reef near St. Helier’s Bay
The vessel went on the reef at full speedy but fortunately the reef is fiat sandstone. The passengers, numbering from 200 to 300, were transferred to another ferry boat.
Ihe Britannia was refloated hi theevening, being apparently undamaged. The reef is marked by beacons at either end.
