AN OLD FIRM MERGES.
After thirty years of active business life in New Plymouth, Messrs. Ambury Brothers are retiring and Messrs. White Ltd. are taking over the. business and premises which adjoin their own establishment. During the time tlie Ambury’s have formed a pert of tile trading community of the town they have deservedly gained the respect and confidence of tile whole public of tile town and district. Their success must have been based upon the practical ob servanee of that great principle of a square deal all round, and no business can flourish unless that principle is adopted. The reason is not far to seek, for although some people may be under the erroneous impression that the business houses are’ actuated by a desire to take advantage of the public, a
moment’s consideration should convince
them tiiat no shopkeepers or business mon can achieve real or enduring sue-t-ess unless they gain the confidence of the .public by fair dealing, efficiency and sound enterprise. It is men of sterling worth like tlie Ambury’s and others who help to make a good name for a town, for they stamp tlie impress of their business sincerity, honest dealing and conscientious methods on tlie life of the community, and tlie value of such an example cannot be over-stressed, for it permeates every department of life. There can be no question but that it is an enormous advantage to a town to have capable men of high principles, exemplary rectitude and actuated by the spirit of -fair dealing in tlie forefront of business affairs. Ambury Bros, have done much to advance the good repute of New Plymouth, and their fine example should inspire others to do likewise. It is no small achievement to gain the 'thorough confidence of the public and to retire from a business built up on clean, honest lines, carrying into private life the respect and esteem of those with whom for a third of a century they have transacted business to their mutual satisfaction. No one could wish for a better close of a business career.
