LONDON WHEAT MARKET. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, April 18. Wheat cargoes are firmly held in view of the American advance, but a holiday tone prevails. Parcels are firm and sellers are asking Is fid advance, but the market dosed easier. The Thistleton shipment sold at 56s for the Continent. LONDON MARKETS. London, April 19The rise in silver is due to heavy Chinese buying in connection with the civil war. There is good demand for apples. The Westmorelands New Zealand a-pples sold at about last week’s rates, except Cox’s, which were about 20s to 235; some of them were badly pitted. Hides.—Very dull. Tanners are cautious, as it is reported there are enormous stocks of leather in the United States. There are some fears that large shipments are being dumped here at low prices. Sellers’ ideas of the value of hides are much above those of buyers and business is only possible if concessions are made. Present quotation are: ‘Salted Queensland and New South Wales, 50 to 60 lbs., 6sd to 7|d; 40 to 50 lbs., 6Ad to 7d. Leather.—Slack demand for Australian. Good is quoted at Is to Is 4d. ■Cargoes closed firmer. The Benvorlich, Bellfield and Nivose cargoes sold at 56s fid, the Cymric Queen at 56s 3d. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. Sydney, April ]9. The wool sales have been resumed. Competition was exceptionally keen especially for superfine merinos and crossbreds. Late rates were well maintained. DAIRY PRODUCE.
