RACING IN AUSTRALIA. FURIOUS WINS V.R.C. DERBY. ANOTHER WIN FOR EURYTHMIC. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 30, 5.5 p.m. Meibou !, Oct. 30. The weather was bright and there was an enormous attendance for the first day of the Victorian Racing Club’s meeting at Flemington on Saturday. The Governor-General and the State Governors were present; also a few New Zealanders. The going was good. Armed Alliance was always prominent, and won the Maiden Plate in fast time. Duncan rode the winner. Dempsey’s mount, Anatoiie. dislodged Its rider prior to the start of the Maribyrnong Plate and bolted. It took no part In the race. Bellambi, ridden by McLachlan, led from the tan crossing and won well from the 1000 guinea colt Prince Tressady. This is McLachlan's third success in this race. Bellambi cost £475 as a yearling. After the race Bellambi dislodged its rider, who landed on his feet. There was a good race for the Melbourne Stakes. Violoncello led early from Eurythmic, who went to the front at the distance and' won nicely. Dempsey rode Eurythmic, and had a great reception. He has now won £28,597 in stakes. At the back Bassi had a neck lead from Lionel Attwho was a length in front of Furious. Then came Pelaw Main. At the turn Lionel Attwill and Bassi were together, half a length ahead of Furious. Honey Bee was last at the beginning and then came up to fourth. Furious led into the straight and won easily fcy three lengths from Bassi. Harvest King, three lengths away, was third. Honey Bee fourth, Lionel Attwiil next and Pelaw Main Last. Time, 2m in 35sec—a record for the race. Furious is handicapped at 7.2 in the Melbourne Cup, and carries no extra weight. Lewis gained his seventh Victoria Derby riding success. The winner was accorded a good reception. Lewis stated that he had a comfortable ride, and the issue was never doubtful. POVERTY BAY MEETING. CONCLUDING RESULTS. Gisborne, Oct. 29. The Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting was concluded to-day, the weather being again Ideal, and there being a good attendance. The going was good. The totalisator investments decreased by £7441, being £18,318, against £25,759 for the second day last year. The total decrease for the meeting was £14,139, being £34,431 this year, as compared with £49.570 last year. Results:
