GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The annual sports in connection with the New Plymouth Girls' High School were held at. the school grounds on Saturday in fine weather and there was a representative attendance of parents, and. friends of the school. The sports were entirely controlled by the staff, who deserve to be complimented on the completeness of the arrangements, the whole programme, a very lengthy and varied one, being got. off smoothly and expeditiously. The picturesque grounds, which were looking splendid, had been prepared before hand for the various events, which included running and jumping, as well as an obstacle race and other miscellaneous items that made up an attractive programme. There were large fields In each event, and the youthful competitors showed great keenness, the finishes being closely fought out. The sports were commenced in the morning and continued throughout the afternoon, the results being followed with interest by the spectators, who, appreciated the smartness and precision with which the results were posted on the result board. Miss Clark as starter, and Misses Wilson and Park as judges, assisted by Mr. E. Turner, carried out their duties very ably.

The championships were keenly contested. In the senior championship there was a tie between A. Abraham and H. Penn, whilst the junior championship was won by M.
