The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. T. M. Wilford) has given notice of his intention to ask the of 1’ inance whether he favors the establishment of farmers’ agricultural banks, which have been in successful operation in Denmark.

“We are going to have a very heavy session of business that must be dealt with before we close down, even if the House has to meet after Christmas—and that is quite on the cards,” said the Prime Minister in the course of a reply to a deputation on Thursday. “I must say, though, that I have never seen business puj; through more quickly than during the present session, and it is a good thing that it is so.”

The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Wilford) asked in the House of Representatives if the Prime Minister was aware that while the wholesale price of New Zealand meat in London was 6d per pound, the retail price was Is 6d. The retailers stated that they were making only 2d per pound profit. If that was so, who was getting the remaining lOd? Mr. Massey replied that the official figures he had placed before the House on the preceding day did not confirm the statements made by the Leader of the Opposition. It did not appear that the meat was being sold at 6d and retailed at Is 6d.
