The Daily Chronicle states it is expected Egypt will shortly cease to be a British Protectorate, and will become an Allied power. Should the negotiations prove smooth the High Commissionership will cease to exist and will be changed into a British Minister to EgyptConferences have been proceeding for some time between the Egyptian mission under Adly Pasha and the Foreign Office, suggesting that the Protectorate should be abolished and a treaty alliance substituted, which has been agreed to by both sides, but the discussion continues regarding the terms. It is hoped the treaty will be signed this year, the British Government stipulating for the security of our communications and the protection of foreigners in Egypt.
