In view of the serious position of the coal industry the Miners’ Federation has submitted to the Government a new scheme for the revival of the mduatry. It is proposed that- the maximum price of industrial coal should be fixed at 30s a ton delivered, including the cost of railway freightage, and that the Government, for a period, should make up the difference to coal owners and the railways. The scheme will involve a Government grant of possibly £8,000,000 to £10,000,000. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
