A working bee held on Thursday had pulled down the old pig pens and cleared the ground for the erection of new ones. Fourteen new members were elected. The question of holding a Royal Show was discussed, Mr. Linnell givingibotice of motion that his association supported the holding of a Royal Show on the lines , brought down by the Council of Agriculture. Messrs. O’Sullivan and Sons have preI sented to the association a champion dairy plate and twenty guineas for competition in the Jersey section. MODEL DAIRY FARM.

The report which will be presented at the annual meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm on Saturday states that during die past year the crops grown were very satisfactory. With swedes 23 different manurial trials were carried out. The land had never been used before. It wti ploughed early and well cultivated and rolled. The swede used was Hurst's Magnum Bonuni. In swede variety trials eight different varieties werq used. Mangolds and carrots were grown on land which had carried a crop of swedes in the previous year. Various manures were tried with mangolds, and four varieties of both mangolds and carrots were sown. Fodder ’ crops for hay or ensilage were oats and Vetches and oats and peas. The quantities . and varieties of the legumes were varied. An acre of beans and peas did remarkably well, and a field sown down to pasture with Buda Kale is at the present time carrying a splendid sole of grass. The top-dressing trials include the pasture of all ages, from that sown down a few months previously to the old bush pasture of over twenty years.

Frank Arden, occurred at New Plymouth on Monday, after a lingering illness. The late Mr’. Arden was for several years an inspector in the fields division of the Agricultural Department, and on retiring owing to ill- • ness, took up his residence in Stratford. His special hobby was horticulture, of i | which lie was a prominent and successful i student. For a term deceased was a meml et oi (he Stratford Borough Council, being compelled to retire owing to a paralytic , stroke, from which he never fully recovered. His age was 74.
