SIX MILLION LOAN
THE COMPULSORY CLAUSES. ‘ NOW BEING ENFORCED. Bj felefirtph Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Commissioner of Taxes, interviewed to-day, stated he had been issuing for three or four months past compulsory loan clause notices culling up £1,000,000 of the balance of the £6,000,000 soldier settlement loan. This was done gradually, under an arrangement made by Mr. Massey before going Home, the object being to give people time to find the money and not create too much pressure on the money market. All non-contributors were requested to fulfil their liability to contribute, which still exists, or show co-ose why they should not. A fairly steady flow of money was coming in, he added, though the total yield was not very great yet. The last lot of notices had not had time to have full effect.
