A FAREWELL MESSAGE,

VALUE OF CONFERENCE. UNITY OF THE EMPIRE. By Telegnipb.-'Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 25, 10 p.m. London, August 25. Mr. Lloyd George farewelled Mr. W. F. Massey, who leaves Liverpool to-day on •board the Empress of France for Quebec, and will catch the Niagara at Vancouver on September 10. Mr. Maasey, in a farewell message, fiftys he is going bock to New Zealand satisfied that his visit and the work of the Dominion Premiers promoted the welfare of the Empire. He added: “The instructions given me when I left New Zealand were to stand in all things for a united Empire, and i am confident that what has been done will assuredly strengthen the bonds uniting the British people. There have been difficult and intricate questions, but the future, jvill prove the wisdom or unwisdom of the conference’s decisions. I believe the pillars of Empire have been strengthened sufficiently to bear the superstructure of a still mightier nation. The problems to which we must all give immediate attention and consideration include improved means of inter-Imperial trade, the maintenance of a naval strength sufficient to ensure the protection of British citizens in all parts of the world and regaining our previous supremacy in trade and commerce.”

CABLE FROM MR. MASSEY. ARRIVING IN OCTOBER. By Telegraph.—l’tess Association. Wellington, Last Night. Cabled advice was received by the acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) this morning that Mr. Massey was leaving England for New Zealand that afternoon. Mr. Massey, who is coming out via Vancouver, is expected to arrive during the first week in October.
